27/11/2006 - Climbing " I had never been climbing before and so this was a new experience. I thought it was really fun, especially when I reached the top of the wall. I hope to go climbing again soon. " REVIEW BY CDT HARRINGTON.
"
This was a great first time climbing for me, I had never done anything
like this before. I had also never belayed my friends whilst they climbed.
I did not understand how to do this at first but I got the hang of it in
the end, after instruction and practice. I would love to go climbing again
in the near future. " |

14-22/07/2006 - Nijmegen 2006 " Nijmegen was the first time I had been out of this country with Cadets. I wasn’t that nervous about it because I was ok with the staff and Cadets, having trained all year doing training marches with them where I had got the affectionate nick name “joker”. The atmosphere in camp 'Heumensoord' was great. We were staying with 61 different countries including the US, Canada, Sweden, Norway and Russia to name but a few not to mention the huge BMC (British Military Contingent). Overall, it was a good week and I recommend Cadets to do it! " REVIEW BY CDT MCCARTHY. |

26/04/2006-10/05/2006 - Cyprus Overseas Camp " This was my first overseas camp with the Air Cadets and so I didn't know what to expect. There were about 70 Cadets at this camp from all over the United Kingdom and I met some really great people. We visited many different sections of the RAF base including the Dog Section, RAF Regiment and Air Traffic Control. The best things on this camp have to be polishing the Red Arrows and going to the water park in Aiya Napa. Overall, an excellent camp, highly recommended to any Cadet. " REVIEW BY SGT ROBERTS. |

Flying " I’m only 14 years old and yet I have been an Air Cadet for almost a year, have taken my First Class Cadet exams and have already been flying. This was a great experience for me as I had never thought I could do it. I was up in the air for about 30 minutes and was taught how to control the plane. Next time I go flying I would like to control the plane through some aerobatic manoeuvres and hopefully learn how to take off and land the aircraft. " REVIEW BY CPL HILL. |

Gliding " 'Winch-launch' gliding at RAF Kenley was my first experience of taking control of an aircraft and is still my favourite activity available to the Cadets. There are two types of gliding available to Cadets, 'winch-launch' and 'motor-gliding'. In 'winch-launch' the aircraft is attached to a long cable, which is attached to the winch on the other side of the airfield. After a rapid acceleration the aircraft quickly climbs to about 1500-2000 feet where the cable is released and then falls back to earth. A 'winch-launch' flight lasts between 5-15 minutes and is very dependent on the weather conditions. For 'motor-gliding', the glider is fitted with a small engine, meaning the aircraft can taxi, take-off and climb without assistance, also allowing for a longer flight due to the higher altitude. I find gliding a very rewarding experience and wish to continue my training to the level of a gliding scholarship. " REVIEW BY CPL BISHOP. |
